2009 Home Tutor Opportunities - All Properties
We have a number of Home Tutor positions available for the 2009 school year.
The core responsibility of this position is to provide educational support and supervision of children attending a School of Distance Education. Duties include:
- Teaching station children as per the curriculum;
- Preparing extra lessons if necessary;
- Keeping the classroom organised, clean and tidy;
- Keeping own quarters and laundry facilities clean and tidy;
- Undertaking alternative duties around the station as required, e.g. light domestic and helping in the kitchen.
All positions are required to start at least one week prior to commencement of the school term for the relevant School of Distance Education. Stations where positions are available include: Durham Downs (QLD), Woomanooka (Outstation to Durham), Durrie (QLD), Helen Springs (NT), Innamincka (SA) and Naryilco (QLD). Successful applicants will need a minimum education level of Year 12, with tertiary qualifications highly regarded. Bore Maintenance (Level depends on experience) - Durham Downs
We have a number of positions available for experienced Bore Runners or Bore Mechanics. Key requirements of this position include:
- Ability to perform under limited supervision;
- Good communication skills;
- Sound mechanical knowledge of motors, pumps and windmills;
- Maintaining and servicing of equipment under direct control;
- Proficient in maintaining adequate water levels for stock;
- Ensuring stock have clean water at all times (e.g. clean troughs etc);
- Maintaining fences around watering points;
- Taking instruction from senior staff;
- Observing and reporting on any abnormalities associated with the role (e.g. sick cattle, vehicle movements etc);
- Willing to work unsocial hours when required;
- Flexible to move into other work areas or perform tasks unrelated to bores if required.
Stations where positions are available include: Durham Downs (QLD), Innamincka (SA) and Quinyambie (SA).

Glengyle Station, located in South West Queensland, approximately 50km south of Bedourie, is seeking a full time, experienced Grader Driver. The position requires the operation and general maintenance of a Cat 12D Grader.

Pilot/ Station Hand (Level 5) - Glengyle
Glengyle Station, located in South West Queensland, 50km from Bedourie, is seeking a Pilot/ Station Hand to commence in February 2009.
The successful candidate will hold a Commercial Pilot's Licence, have a minimum of 170 hours total flying time and the appropriate endorsements and/or type certification for the aircraft to be flown (a Cessner 172). A low level and mustering endorsement is essential, however, this may be obtained post employment.
When not engaged in aerial operations, the pilot will be required to work as a Station Hand and assist with day to day tasks on the station, including working with livestock. A rural background and skills in cattle handling, motor bike and horse riding would be advantageous, although not essential.

Rangeland Ecologist - All Properties
We are seeking a Rangeland Ecologist to assist in managing the company's 128,000 square kilometres of pastoral lease.
The position reports to the Managing Director and provides practical support and strategic environmental advice to Station Managers and the Executive Management Team. The successful candidate will have a degree in science, with emphasis on rangeland or agricultural science, and at least five years relevant postgraduate experience. Field experience in Australia·s arid and semi-arid pastoral zone and skills in vegetation monitoring, pasture management, grazing ecology, pest and weed control and arid areas conservation are essential. Experience in biodiversity monitoring, pastoral mapping, infrastructure planning, mining and community liaison, government negotiations and collaborative research will be useful and well regarded.
A current drivers licence and experience with 4WD vehicles in remote areas is essential. Out of hours work, camping and interstate travel will be required. A fully maintained and suitably equipped 4WD vehicle will be supplied.
The successful applicant will be a self starter capable of planning and working independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed, along with experience in data management and presentation. A willingness to support the pastoral industry and work with company and industry colleagues is essential.
The position is based in the company·s head office in North Adelaide. A salary and superannuation package in the range $80,000 - $90,000 is envisaged.

Station Cook (Level 4) - Ruby Plains
Ruby Plains Station, located south of Halls Creek - East Kimberley WA, requires a full-time, experienced Station Cook to start immediately. Key responsibilities of the position include:
- Cooking for 13-20 employees;
- Planning menus, ordering supplies and preparing meals that are nutritious, tasty and varied;
- Maintaining cooking areas and utensils in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition;
- Maintaining the kitchen, dining room, cool room, store room and meat house in a clean, tidy and hygienic state;
- Catering for visitors to the property in addition to the number of employees detailed above.
- Other duties as required.

Station Hand (Level depends on experience) - All Properties
Opportunities for employment as a Station Hand may be available across our various cattle properties. Key responsibilities of Station Hand personnel include:
- Assisting with effective and timely herd management, including: mustering, branding, weaning, culling, sales, herd health programs and segregation of livestock classes;
- Observing and reporting land and environmental issues on the property;
- Observing safe work procedures;
- Undertaking vehicle maintenance;
- Assisting with maintaining and developing facilities and improvements upon the station;
- Assisting with record keeping;
- Maintaining good verbal communication.
Please note: This is not a complete list of job responsibilities and Duty Statements may vary between properties. Station Hand accommodation is generally a single, air conditioned room in either the female or male staff quarters.
