S. Kidman & Co employs staff in a diverse range of positions across its 13 cattle properties and Feedlot operation. The Head office is based in Adelaide with our stations located in rural Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Our Feedlot is located at Sedan, South Australia.

Bore Mechanic (Commencement mid February 2019) - Brunchilly

We are seeking an experienced Bore Mechanic for Brunchilly Station, situated 100km North East of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Bore Mechanic is required to service, maintain and repair Kubota motors and pumps and other general bore pumping equipment. Other duties include trough and fencing repairs, vehicle and workshop maintenance and operation of a Loader. Assistance with Bore runs to check station watering points and maintain water facilities and pipelines may be required at times.

Applicants must have sound mechanical knowledge of Kubota motors and pumps, be self-motivated with good communication skills, able to work unsupervised and have a strong regard for workplace health and safety. A Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence and Loader ticket is preferred.

Bore Mechanic/Bore Runner (Commencement January 2019) - Naryilco

An opportunity is available for an experienced Bore Runner/Bore Mechanic to join the team at Naryilco Station. Naryilco is situated in South West Queensland, 110km north of Tibooburra.

Reporting to the Station Manager, you will be required to service, maintain and repair solar pumps and solar submersibles, and other general bore pumping equipment. Other duties include trough and fencing repairs and vehicle and workshop maintenance.

Sound mechanical knowledge of motors and pumps is required, along with a strong regard for workplace health and safety.

Applicants must have good communication skills, be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised. An HR Licence and skills in machinery operation are desirable.

Camp Cook (Commencement April 2019) - Helen Springs

An opportunity exists for a Camp Cook at Helen Springs Station, situated 140km North of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. The position is for a three month fixed term period, commencing in April 2019.

The successful applicant will need to be capable of preparing timely, tasty and nutritious meals for 6-12 people, along with maintaining the camp kitchen area in a clean, tidy and hygienic state.

Camping out with the stock camp is frequently required. When not camping out, you will be required to assist the Station Cook and help with domestic duties around the station complex.

Good cooking skills, excellent standards of cleanliness and the ability to work autonomously are essential. An affinity for remote rural living is recommended.

Gardener/Domestic (Commencement January 2019) - Brunchilly
Brunchilly Station, located 100km North East of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory, is seeking a full-time Gardener/Domestic for commencement in January 2019.

Duties include maintaining large, well established station gardens, along with the maintenance of a swimming pool and cleaning of various accommodation buildings.

Successful applicants must:
  • Have practical experience in gardening activities, including planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, fertilising, mulching, mowing and watering
  • Have good communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Be self-motivated and able to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Have a strong commitment to workplace health and safety

Ruby Plains Station, located 60 km south of Halls Creek in the East Kimberley of Western Australia, is seeking a full-time Gardener/Handyperson to commence in 2019.

Duties include maintaining large, well established station gardens and the general upkeep, tidiness and maintenance of the station's buildings and facilities.

Machinery Operator (Grader) (Immediate Commencement) - Helen Springs
A position is available for an experienced Grader Driver at Helen Springs Station. Helen Springs is situated 140km North of Tennant Creek, in the Northern Territory. The position is available for immediate commencement.

Duties include the maintenance of station roads, fencelines, airstrips and fire breaks, general property observations during grading and general maintenance of a CAT 140G Grader.

Applicants are required to have:
  • A current HR licence
  • Previous experience operating a Grader (ticketed preferred)
  • General station & machinery maintenance experience
  • Ability to observe general property needs, i.e. fencing, livestock health
  • Good communication & organisational skills
  • Self-motivation & the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • An appreciation for remote rural living.
Camping out is a requirement of the position.

Overseer (Immediate Commencement) - Sturt Creek
An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated Overseer for Sturt Creek, an outstation of Ruby Plains Station. Situated 210 km south of Halls Creek, Sturt Creek is a part of the Ruby Plains aggregation, which runs 27,000 head of Brahman/Charbray cattle over 9,500 square kilometres.

The property has a comfortable homestead environment set in established gardens on the banks of the Sturt Creek. The outstation infrastructure is well developed with sub-divisional fencing, five steel drafting yards and stock water supplied from 18 sub-artesian bores, dams and waterholes.

Reporting to the Ruby Plains Station Manager, the Overseer leads and directs outstation operations with responsibility for supervising staff, livestock operations and property and stock water infrastructure repairs and maintenance in order to achieve the property performance objectives.

The successful applicant will have:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the management of large cattle herds (including livestock recording systems), landcare, people and safety management, property maintenance and financial management.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a station leadership role Experience in coaching, mentoring and leading a team
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • A Medium Rigid (MR) truck licence & Motorcycle licence
  • A Firearms licence (Class A and Class B)
  • A current National Police Clearance Certificate (or be willing to obtain).
An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant for this important position within the organisation. There is potential employment for a partner in a cooking capacity.

Station Cook/Domestic (Commencement January 2019) - Woomanooka
Woomanooka, an outstation of Durham Downs Station, located 240 km west of Thargomindah in South West Queensland, is seeking a full-time Station Cook/Domestic.

The successful applicant will need to be capable of carrying out the following duties:
  • Planning menus
  • Ordering supplies
  • Preparing tasty nutritious meals for 6-12 people and
  • Maintaining the kitchen, dining room and food storage areas in a clean, tidy and hygienic state.
Basic cooking skills and excellent standards of cleanliness are essential. When not carrying out cooking requirements, other duties will include general domestic/ gardening activities around the homestead complex. An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.
