S. Kidman & Co employs staff in a diverse range of positions across its 14 cattle properties and Feedlot operation. The Head office is based in Adelaide with our stations located in rural Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Our Feedlot is located at Sedan, South Australia.

Opportunities for employment on our properties may arise throughout the course of the season, which generally runs from mid February to December each year. Positions that may become available include:

Bore Runner (September 2018 Commencement) - Ruby Plains
Ruby Plains Station is seeking an experienced Bore Runner to commence in September. The station is situated 60km south of Halls Creek in the East Kimberley of Western Australia.

Reporting to the Station Manager, the key requirements of the position includes:
  • The ability to perform under limited supervision;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Sound mechanical knowledge of motors, pumps and windmills;
  • Maintaining and servicing of equipment under direct control;
  • Proficient in maintaining adequate water levels for stock;
  • Ensuring stock have clean water at all times (e.g. clean troughs etc);
  • Maintaining fences around watering points;
  • Taking instruction from senior staff;
  • Observing and reporting on any abnormalities associated with the role (e.g. sick cattle, vehicle movements etc);
  • Willing to work unsocial hours when required;
  • Flexible to move into other work areas or perform tasks unrelated to bores if required.

Gardener/Handyperson (Immediate Commencement) - Ruby Plains
Ruby Plains Station, located 60 km south of Halls Creek in the East Kimberley of Western Australia, is seeking a full-time Gardener/Handyperson to commence immediately.

Duties include maintaining large, well established station gardens and the general upkeep, tidiness and maintenance of the station's buildings and facilities.

Successful applicants must:
  • Have practical experience in gardening activities, including planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, fertilising, mulching, mowing and watering
  • Have good communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Be self-motivated and able to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Have a strong commitment to workplace health and safety
  • Hold a current Driver’s licence
  • Have Chemical Users Accreditation (desirable).
An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.

Home Tutor (Immediate Commencement) - Durham Downs, Morney Plains
We are seeking an experienced Home Tutor for Morney Plains Station and Durham Downs Station. Both properties are situated in South West Queensland. Morney Plains - 120 km west of Windorah and Durham Downs - 350km west of Quilpie.

These positions require the provision of educational support and supervision of children attending a school of distance education.

Morney Plains has an 11 year old girl completing Year 5 through the Longreach School of Distance Education, and a 14 year old girl completing Year 9 through Western Alliance Schools of Distance Education.

Durham Downs has a nine year old boy completing Year 4 through Longreach SDE.

Key duties include:
  • Coordinating & supervising the daily school lessons and curriculum
  • Planning & maintaining a structured school schedule
  • Organising & providing materials & equipment needed
  • Maintaining regular contact with teachers
  • Encouraging participation in and developing extracurricular activities such as arts & crafts and sport
  • Attending school activities off station
  • Undertaking alternative duties around the station as required, e.g. light domestic/gardening, helping in the kitchen.
Successful applicants will need to be energetic, self-motivated, flexible, highly organised, have a positive outlook, and most importantly be genuinely interested in teaching children. Tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded. Requirements include:
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Sound literacy, numeracy & writing skills
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office™ applications
  • Good planning & organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to children
  • Police and/or Working with Children check
  • Senior First Aid certificate
  • Drivers licence.

Station Hand - Naryilco
An opportunity is available for an experienced Station Hand to join the stock camp team at Naryilco Station. Naryilco is situated in South West Queensland, 110km north of Tibooburra.

To be considered, applicants will need to have experience with Station Hand duties including:
  • movement, handling and monitoring of cattle;
  • use of horses and bikes;
  • general station maintenance and repairs - including fencing & welding;
  • vehicle & machinery operation and maintenance; and
  • land management.
A Class C Drivers licence, experience riding horses and handling cattle in a calm and controlled manner, along with a strong commitment to workplace safety and animal welfare is required. A Motorbike licence is preferred or be willing to obtain.

Air-conditioned, single room accommodation is available and all meals provided. An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.
