S. Kidman & Co employs staff in a diverse range of positions across its 13 cattle properties. The Head office is based in Adelaide with our stations located in rural Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Fixed-Wing Pilot/Station Hand - Durham Downs
We are currently seeking applications for a Fixed-Wing Pilot/Station Hand position at Durham Downs Station, situated in the South West Queensland Channel Country.

Reporting to the Station Manager, your main responsibilities will include aerial stock mustering, checking of stock and facilities and flying company personnel between properties. You will at all times adhere to regulatory requirements and the Company's safety and operational standards.

When not engaged in aerial operations, you will be required to undertake Station Hand duties and assist with general day to day station activities, including working with livestock.

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Hold an Australian CPL with aircraft class rating for Single-engine Aeroplane (SEA)
  • Minimum 300 hours total flying time
  • Minimum 100 hours of Pilot in Command (PIC)
  • Low-level rating and Aerial Mustering endorsement*
  • Experience flying a Cessna 172
  • Current Class 1 medical
  • Current Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
  • Current Class C Motor Vehicle Drivers Licence
  • Australian resident status.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous Station Hand experience (on-ground mustering and livestock handling skills)
  • Remote and regional area aviation experience as a single pilot

Home Tutor (2020 School Year) - Durham Downs
We are seeking an experienced Home Tutor for Durham Downs Station, located in the Channel Country of South West Queensland.

The position is a fixed term contract for the 2020 school year, commencing one week prior to the start of Term One.

The role requires the provision of educational support and supervision of three children who will be completing Pre-School and Years 2 and 4 respectively through Port Augusta School of the Air.

Key duties include:
  • Coordinating & supervising the daily school lessons and curriculum
  • Planning & maintaining a structured school schedule
  • Organising & providing materials & equipment needed
  • Maintaining regular contact with teachers
  • Encouraging participation in and developing extracurricular activities such as arts & crafts and sport
  • Attending school activities off station.
  • Ensuring own quarters and laundry facilities are kept clean and tidy
Successful applicants will need to be energetic, self-motivated, flexible, highly organised, have a positive outlook, and most importantly be genuinely interested in teaching children. Tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded. Requirements include:
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Sound literacy, numeracy & writing skills
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and proficiency with Microsoft Officeâ„¢ applications
  • Good planning & organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to children
  • SA Working with Children check
  • Senior First Aid certificate
  • Curren Drivers licence (own vehicle is an advantage).

Station Cook (2020 commencement) - Brunchilly
Brunchilly Station has an opportunity available for a friendly, self-motivated and passionate Station Cook to join their team in January 2020.

Brunchilly, situated in the Northern Territory, spans over 4,572km2 and has an average carrying capacity of 24,000 head of cattle. Expansive gardens and lawns surround the station complex, which includes a swimming pool and social club.

The successful applicant for this position will need to be capable of carrying out the following duties:
  • Planning menus;
  • Ordering supplies;
  • Preparing tasty, nutritious meals for up to 20 people;
  • Maintaining the kitchen, dining room and food storage areas in a clean, tidy and hygienic state and;
  • Other domestic type duties as required.
Basic cooking skills and excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness are essential. An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.

Quality air-conditioned, single room accommodation is available and all meals are provided.

Station Cook (2020 commencement) - Ruby Plains
We are seeking a full-time, experienced Station Cook for Ruby Plains Station. The position is available for commencement in late February 2020 or earlier by negotiation.

Ruby Plains is located in the remote beautiful Kimberley Region of Western Australia. It covers 480,459 ha and on average, runs 24,000 head of cattle. The herd is mainly Brahman with an infusion of Charbray, Coolibah Composite and Wagyu.

The Ruby Plains homestead is located on the bank of a creek, which only flows in the wet season. Lush large green lawns and well-established trees surround the homestead.

To be successful in this position, you will need to be capable of carrying out the following duties:
  • Planning menus;
  • Ordering supplies;
  • Preparing tasty, nutritious meals for up to 20 people;
  • Maintaining a large modern and well-equipped commercial kitchen, dining room and food storage areas in a clean, tidy and hygienic state and;
  • Other domestic type duties as required.
Basic cooking skills and excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness are essential. An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.

Quality air-conditioned, single room accommodation is available and all meals are provided.

Station Cook/Gardener (2020 commencement) - Durrie
An opportunity is available for a friendly, self-motivated and enthusiastic Station Cook/Gardener to join the team at Durrie Station, commencing around mid-February of 2020.

Durrie is located in the Channel Country of South West Queensland and on average, runs approximately 9,000 head of cattle.

To be considered for this position, you will need to be capable of carrying out the following duties:
  • Planning menus;
  • Ordering supplies;
  • Preparing tasty, nutritious meals for up to 12 people; and
  • Maintaining the kitchen, dining room and food storage areas in a clean, tidy and hygienic state.
When not carrying out cooking requirements, other duties will include maintaining the station gardens and some general maintenance outside of the homestead complex to a standard agreed with the manager.

Basic cooking skills and excellent standards of cleanliness are essential. An appreciation for remote rural living is recommended.
